Issue 08 · For the Group Marketing Director · multi-format retail
Singapore has 6 million people. One retail group there named 680,000 shoppers in a single week.
It took four businesses writing to one member record. MAP already runs that structure in Indonesia across 150 brands. Most groups here do not.
A supplier wants to reach your customers across three of your formats. Your minimarket team quotes one rate card, pharmacy quotes another, and the department store books a separate meeting.
Three negotiations, three reports. Nobody in the group can tell that supplier whether the same person appeared in all three.
On 27 October, FairPrice Group in Singapore connected four of its businesses to one member record. This issue covers what they joined, what MAP already built here, and the number your group can check on Monday.
Supermarkets, convenience stores, pharmacies and food courts, on one member record.
FPG ADvantage spans FairPrice supermarkets, Cheers convenience stores, Unity pharmacies and Kopitiam food courts. 570 touchpoints, including the app, in-store screens and smart trolleys.
The spine is 2 million Link Rewards members and 1.7 million app users. One shopper carries one identity whichever door she walks through.
A beverage supplier reaches the same woman buying groceries on Saturday, a drink at the food court on Monday and paracetamol on Wednesday, then reads one report covering all three visits.
“A trusted and closed-loop advertising solution built on insight derived from Singapore’s largest retailer.”
Vipul Chawla · Group CEO, FairPrice Group · 27 Oct 2025
One caution before anyone quotes the result. Nestlé reported 42x return and a 30% sales lift from a one-week Milo campaign, and FairPrice’s own footnote calls that attributable return for the advertised products.
Attributable counts every buyer the campaign touched, including shoppers who buy Milo every month regardless. Copy the member record underneath it, not the headline number.
The same shopper, filed two different ways.
Both groups below serve one woman across three or four businesses. Only one of them can prove it afterwards.
Joined
Supermarket, convenience, pharmacy and food court all write to one member record. Sold once, as one audience. Reach across all four is provable.
Separate
Minimarket, pharmacy and department store each write to their own separate record. Sold three times, as three strangers. The supplier cannot check for double payment.
MAP runs one card across 150 brands, and points earned on shoes buy the coffee.
MAPCLUB covers more than 150 international brands across 3,000 outlets in 80 cities, spanning fashion, sports, kids, department store and food. One card, every brand under the group.
“Satu kartu, ratusan brand, ribuan store. Kartu yang sama bisa dipakai di semua brand di bawah bendera MAP.”
Fetty Kwartati · Corporate Secretary, PT Mitra Adiperkasa
A customer buys a pair of shoes at one brand, earns points, and spends those points on coffee at another. That single mechanic requires both transactions to land on the same record.
So the structure is not a Singapore import. It runs in Jakarta already, which raises a harder question for any group that has not built it.
Three questions that show whether your group holds one customer or several strangers.
Put each one to your own member and transaction records this week.
01 · The overlap count
How many members shop in two or more of your formats?
FairPrice sells that overlap as its product. If your systems cannot count it, you cannot price it.
02 · The value gap
What does a two-format shopper spend against a one-format shopper?
MAP built a points mechanic that pushes customers between brands. That ratio is what justifies the build.
03 · The double-charge test
When a supplier buys two of your formats, how many people did it pay for twice?
A supplier who cannot check this discounts your rate card to cover the risk.
One thing you can do on Monday.
Take your two largest formats. Ask each team to export the member identifiers from last month, then count how many appear on both lists.
If the two teams have no identifier in common, the count cannot be run. That is the same failure your supplier meets when it asks who your campaign reached.
Thanks for reading this far. FairPrice did not out-build anyone. It connected four businesses it already owned, and MAP did the same here years earlier.
